Emmeline Taylor was born on 5th November 1884. She was the first daughter of Charles and Alice Taylor (nee Smith),  and she had four older brothers, Frederick, born in 1879 , Henry born in 1880, both born in West Ham ,Charles born in 1883 in Walthamstow. and John born in Edmonton in 1884.
The couple had recently moved to Nottingham from Edmonton. Emmelines birth certifcate states she was born in a van opposite to Goodhead Street, Nottingham. We know this area was known as the Meddows ( or Meadows) and there was an area of common land.

On 19th February 1891, Emilys father Charles died in Nottingham.
