"According to one account, the two houses kept by the Noddings, whom Mr Dickinson sent to prison for two months with hard labour, are lodging houses, according to a second, public houses . They are neither one nor the other. They are houses of ill-fame, like other houses in the same row, and in the network of lanes and alleys about the docks.

For every ship coming into port the human beast of prey is on the watch.
Many a poor fellow has gone to Station Place with a full purse, and emerged from it in a few hours without a farthing in the world."
