Alan John Thacker was born on 6th October 1943 at The Wilkin, now known as Brownhills West, Staffordshire. He was the eldest son of John & Emily Thacker, or ‘Jack & Em’ as they were known to family and friends. He had 2 younger brothers, Tony & David.
Education: Alan attended Watling Street Primary School and then Brownhills Central Boys School. He later attended Cannock Mining College where he trained as an electrician.

Career: His working career started at the local pit, working alongside both his father and grandfather, but he left when he found a job as a labourer laying gas mains at a firm called Halefords. He progressed to forman, then area supervisor. When Halefords closed he began work at Amec and progressed there also, ending his career as data analyst at 66. Alan loved his job and was extremely popular amongst his work colleagues and trainees.

Childhood: Alan was a member of the Boy Scouts and was a ‘Sixer’, in charge of leading a group of 6 other scouts on marches and activities, as well as being a flag bearer on official occasions.

Hobbies: Alan was a keen fan of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, a season ticket holder and attended matches on a regular basis. He also collected coins in his younger adult life and laterin life enjoyed his computer and social media, as well as chatting to friends on online bingo.

Marriages: He married Valerie Terrett , who’d been his girlfriend from 13 and they had two daughters, Linda & Lisa. When he was 40, the couple divorced and his teenage daughters remained at the family home with their dad.

He continued to work full time, even as a single parent and was a loving and caring father to his girls even after they left home to set up homes themselves.
He then met his second wife, Geraldine and they set up home together in Burntwood, Staffordshire. He enjoyed travelling and holidays but especially loved to visit America, particularly Las Vegas, visiting the States 14 times, as well as holidays to Spain, Malta & Turkey.

Sadly, at 77, Alan’s health deteriorated and in March 2021 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He passed away on 16th August 2021, with his wife, two daughters and stepdaughter at his bedside at Walsall Manor Hospital.
